Neymar to stay at PSG for new season..."I don't need the fans' love"
Neymar has expressed his desire to continue playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Transfer market pundit Fabrizio Romano shared Neymar's comments on social media on Tuesday (June 20). "I want to start next season at PSG, I still have a contract and no one has told me otherwise," Neymar told Brazil's Caze TV.
"With or without the love of the fans, I will stay at PSG," Neymar continued.
Neymar left Brazil to join Barcelona in 2013. Along with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, he formed the "MSN" combination to lead Barcelona's attack and win numerous trophies. In four years, he won two Spanish La Liga titles, one UEFA Champions League title, and three Copa del Rey titles.
He then left for PSG. His arrival at PSG ahead of the 2017-18 season was the 'transfer of the century'. At the time, it was the most expensive transfer in history at €220 million 먹튀검증 ($316.5 billion). Neymar's arrival was part of the club's project to win the UCL, and Kylian Mbappe followed a short time later for similar reasons.
In fact, the 2019-20 season saw some significant results. Led by Neymar, PSG reached the UCL final for the first time in the club's history. However, they fell short of the title, losing to Bayern Munich. As a result, Neymar signed a new contract with PSG through the summer of 2025 to help the club return to European success.
Neymar had 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 Ligue 1 games last season. He was averaging over one attacking point per game, which is not bad for a player of his stature. However, he suffered an injury in late February and was declared out for the season.
In the midst of this, a problem arose. Neymar was criticized by PSG fans after Messi's unauthorized visit to Saudi Arabia at the end of the season. Historically, whenever PSG underperformed in the UCL, Neymar was criticized by fans. This time was no different. Fans showed up at Neymar's doorstep and yelled at him to leave.
Neymar lost patience with the behavior of PSG fans, and rumors surfaced that he was considering leaving. Neymar has been linked to several clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, but his decision to stay at PSG seems to have put an end to those rumors.
For now, PSG is preparing for the upcoming season under Luis Enrique. Despite the departure of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, Lee Kang-in, Marco Asensio, Manuel Ugarte, Milan Skriniar, Luca Hernandez, and Cher N'Dour have joined the club.
