NCPG releases US Online Responsible Gaming Regulations report

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) yesterday released its 2022 report assessing the consumer protection regulations from states with legalized iGaming against its Internet Responsible Gambling Standards (IRGS). The report, titled U.S. Online Responsible Gaming Regulations: An Evaluation Against National Council on Problem Gambling Standards finds that regulations in four of the seven states where iGaming is legal fall drastically short of NCPG’s minimum responsible gambling standards.
iGaming regulations in Delaware, Michigan, Nevada and West Virginia do not mandate operators provide players with sufficient responsible gambling protections. Regulations from Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania met a majority of the standards outlined in the IRGS, but still fall short of meeting the full list. IRGS sets the standard for consumers to ensure whichever operator they choose; they can be confident that the platform has the responsible gambling tools necessary to assist in playing safely.
The National Council on Problem Gambling initially developed the Internet Responsible Gambling Standards in 2012 to help guide discussions among all stakeholders on internet gambling, including operators, regulators, advocates and the public. The IRGS have received regular updates to reflect the current state of online betting, and recent trends in consumer protection and technology. The standards contain specific recommendations in the areas of policy, staff training, informed decision-making, assisting players, self-exclusion, advertising and promotion, game and site features, and working with research.
The most ethical and cost-effective response to gambling addiction issues raised by internet gambling is a comprehensive public health strategy that includes prevention, education, treatment and research services. Responsible gambling standards are an important aspect of this approach. NCPG recommends every state with iGaming or those looking to legalize iGaming adopt the IRGS standards to best protect consumers from the negative consequences of gambling.
World Poker Tour Season XXII first half schedule set
The World Poker Tour has locked in the first half of the Season XXII schedule, offering an eclectic combination of seven WPT Prime and four WPT Main Tour festivals across the globe from late January to early June.
“As we approach the end of Season XXI and the WPT World Championship, we are proud to share the schedule for the first half of Season XXII,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “We worked vigorously with our casino partners to solidify dates for these impressive, value-packed festivals so that players may look ahead to and plan for their 2024 schedules.”
Kicking off Season XXII is Main Tour stop WPT Cambodia at NagaWorld in Phnom Penh with the festival running 17-30 January and the Championship event going 25-29 January. Second up on the Main Tour is the return of WPT Rolling Thunder at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Northern California with festival dates spanning 7-26 March, and the $3,500 Championship event starting 23 March.
Two more Main Tour festivals take place back-to-back in April and May. First, the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown festival runs from 3-23 April. Drawing 2,290 entries in the $3,500 Championship event this year, Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood now lays claim to nine of the top ten largest fields in WPT history.
Rounding out the first half of the Main Tour calendar is WPT Choctaw. The Oklahoma stop returns for its ninth installment and features a $3,800 Championship event among the festival schedule of 17 April - 6 May.
The Prime Tour begins with WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence with festival dates of 26 January - 5 February, followed by the WPT Prime Amsterdam festival from 15-23 March.
At the tail end of March, the first-ever WPT Voyage makes way. Virgin Voyages’ 1,400-cabin Valiant Lady will set sail from Miami on March 31 and return to port on 6 April. Both a Prime title and Main Tour title will be awarded during the flagship event.
April features another pair of Prime stops. Card Casino Bratislava hosts WPT Prime Slovakia for the second time, putting on a festival from 5-15 April. Then, WPT Prime Gold Coast returns at The Star Gold Coast for a third-consecutive year from 10-23 April, subject to regulator approval.

PCGB grants service license to Enteractive
