Following unprecedented situation-related setbacks, the highly anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa is set to commence on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Media officials have been officially invited to participate in this momentous event, marking a significant milestone in the establishment of the future hotel and casino destination.

Hard Rock International is set to bring the casino complex to life in partnership with the Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino. Plans for the CA$318-million expansion of the entertainment facility in south Ottawa were announced back in 2018, but the renovations were put on hold due to the emergence of the unprecedented situation and its impact on the land-based casino industry in Canada.

  • June 6 Event

According to the company, the event will begin at 2:30 p.m. on June 6, 2023, with representatives of operators, elected officials, business and community leaders, and the company plans to showcase new renderings and details of its anticipated tourist and entertainment destinations in Canada's capital.

The ceremony will be held inside The Joint, a live venue at the Lido Carlton Casino, and will be attended by Ottawa Mayor and city officials, Seminole Tribe representatives, Hard Rock International officials, and Ontario Lottery and gaming company representatives. The company's iconic guitar-handled shovel will also attend the landmark event.

One-on-one interviews are held throughout the event, and light refreshments are provided to guests. Guest check-in starts at 2:30 p.m., and the ceremony begins at The Joint on the second floor of Lido Carlton Casino on 4837 Albion Road, which will become the future Hard Rock Casino. Parking is also provided.

The CA$318 million project was originally scheduled to be built north of the Lido Carlton casino currently operating in the area, but the plan was changed by local officials in 2018. The South will now be family-friendly with new services such as a 1,600-seat entertainment center, meal offerings and a 178-room hotel tower.

  • concern about cannibalism

In 2019, Loto-Queebec shared concerns that the introduction of Hard Rock Casino Ottawa would cause problems for nearby gaming facilities. Crown Corporation said it could affect Gatino's Casino Lac-Leamy. At the time, the alarm was backed by forecasts for a decline in casino revenue in the capital area.

Lynn Roiter, then chief executive of the local corporation, expressed concern about the possible impact of the launch on Gatino's future casino operations. Lido Carlton Raceway's first phase transition was expected to cost Gatino CA$1,000,000,000,000 by fiscal 2019, but the casino's renovation was delayed.
