Nottingham Forest, Hwang Ui-jo's original team, has been demoted after four points were deducted. Nottingham, which was aiming to stay in the English Premier League, is on the verge of falling into the English Championship (second division) as it quickly fell to the relegation zone.

"Nottingham Forest, which violated the EPL's profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR), received a four-point deduction from the Independent Commission," the EPL Secretariat said on its official website on the 19th. "The Nottingham Club was referred to the Independent Commission in January."

According to local media such as the Guardian and BBC, Nottingham has spent 250 million pounds (about 425.3 billion won) on transfer fees since being promoted to the EPL stage two years ago. EPL clubs should not exceed 105 million pounds (about 178.6 billion won) in losses over the past three years, but the amount of losses seems to have exceeded the PSR standard due to the huge amount of spending by Nottingham clubs.

With the penalty kick, Nottingham has six wins, seven draws and 16 losses, down four points from 25 to 21. The team went down from 17th at the Maginot Line to 18th at the relegation zone. Instead, Luton Town (22 points) moved up one place from 18th to 17th. In the EPL, the bottom three teams from 18th to 20th will be relegated to next season's championship without a playoff.

It has been reported that Nottingham intends to appeal against the disciplinary decision. A statement from the Nottingham club said: "We are extremely disappointed with the committee's decision to take effect immediately and impose a four-point deduction for the club. This decision by the committee raises concerns for all clubs."

Nottingham is not the only team in the EPL this season that has been penalized for points deducted. Earlier, Everton and Nottingham had 10 points deducted for the same charge, but the penalty has been eased by a six point deduction. Everton remain in 16th place with 25 points (eight wins, seven draws and 13 losses). Without the point deduction, Everton would have been in 14th place with 31 points, but they remain stable.

Last season, there was only two points difference between 17th place in the EPL remaining group and 18th place in the relegation group, and the fate of remaining and relegation changed by three points in the 2021-22 season. The gap between the bottom teams is not large this season, so fierce competition is expected.
