“I think I still have to go to the practice range....”

Kim In-kyung (36) of the LPGA Tour has announced her retirement. She officially announced her retirement at the end of the AIG Women's Open. She announced her retirement after 18 years of LPGA Tour. The conclusion was made after agonizing over the issue for two years.

Kim In-kyung finished the AIG Women's Open, the last major tournament of the LPGA Tour season, ranked 81st in 11 overs on the 26th (Korea time), at St Andrews Old Course (par 72) in Fife, Scotland.

Kim In-kyung announced her retirement to Martin Slumber, chairman of the Royal & Recreation Golf Club (R&A), the organizer of the tournament.

"I thought about retirement for the last two years. I thought a lot about where I should play my last 18 holes," he said in an interview. "I told my coach, friends and family that I would retire last night. I called many friends around the world late at night to tell them I was going to retire, and they stopped me. There were times when I had a hard time, But golf changed my life. I was able to have many good experiences again."

Kim In-kyung gave meaning to each number.

"I started golfing at age 9 and started golfing nine years later. I want to give meaning to the number of golfing numbers 9, 9 and 18," Kim said with a smile.

Kim In-kyung missed a 30-centimeter putt at the 18th hole in the final round of the Nabisco Championship in 2012, failing to win her first major championship. She then swept Korea (恨) with the victory at the 2017 British Women's Open (currently AIG Women's Open).

Kim In-kyung confessed, "I had a very hard time at that time, and I blamed myself a lot. When I won the British Women's Open in 2017, I made up with myself, and it helped me grow."

“I still feel like I have to go to the practice range and practice what I didn’t do,” he continued. "I want to do something meaningful through golf. I'm most proud of doing my best. Thank you for your love, support, and pain with me."
