Rising Kim Siu shoots 2-under after opening round of play
Si Woo Kim (28-CJ Logistics) got off to a strong start with a two-stroke victory in the first round of the 151st The Open Championship ($16.5 million purse).
Kim carded four birdies and two bogeys for a 2-under 69 on the first day of play at Royal Liverpool Country Club (par 71, 7383 yards) in Wirral, England, on Tuesday.
As of 11:30 p.m., Kim is tied for sixth place with Jordan Spieth (USA) and Matthew Jordan (England).
Kim, who has four career wins on the PGA Tour, tied for 15th in last year's The Open and is looking for his first top-10 finish this year.
Kim has been playing consistently well, winning the PGA Tour's Sony Open in January and finishing runner-up at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May. He also has five top-10 finishes to his credit.
Kim opened with back-to-back birdies on the first four or five holes.
After a string of par saves, his play was a bit up and down in the second round. After making his first bogey on the 12th (par-4), he bounced back with a birdie on the 15th (par-5) before dropping another shot on the 17th (par-3). Still, he bounced back with a birdie on the final 18th (par-5) to finish the first round at 2-under.
Ahn Byung-hoon (32-CJ Logistics), who started the day with a 바카라사이트 birdie and four bogeys, also finished the first day at 2-over par.
South African amateur golfer Christo Lamprecht is currently tied for the lead with Tommy Fleetwood (England) after carding seven birdies and two bogeys for a 5-under 66 in the first round. The 6-foot-3 Lamprecht turned heads with his long drives, some of which went over 320 yards.
World No. 1 Scotty Schaeffler (USA) shot an even-par first round.
