‘Korean Tank’ won a valuable silver medal in the senior continental competition representing Asia.

Choi Gyeong-ju (SK Telecom) participated as a member of the world team in the team match World Champions Cup, which ended at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, USA on the 11th (Korean time) and took second place.

The Team Match World Championship is the first competition between the three continents of the United States, Europe, and International on the Champions Tour of the Professional Golf Association Tour, in which players aged 50 and older participate.

The world team, including Choi Kyung-ju, added 17.5 points in the final single match held on this day and ranked second with a total score of 291 points, following the United States (221 points). The European team scored only 208 points.

The first two rounds were played in a six-ball, six-some format in teams of two, and then, after a day's rest, they competed in a nine-hole single match.

Until the second round, Choi Kyung-ju and general manager Ernie Els (South Africa) led the world team and finished in the lead, but the game was overturned on the last day. On the final day of the tournament, Billy Andrei, vice-captain of the U.S. team, scored 11 points in the second half and lost.

The international team gave up the win in the afternoon competition as Retief Goosen (South Africa), whom they trusted, scored only 5.5 points.

The tournament, which was held in a way that the United States, Europe, and the United Nations formed three teams and divided three points for each hole, was enough to attract interest. In particular, the sight of Bernhard Langer (Germany), Steve Stricker (USA), and Vijay Singh (Fiji) competing for power was enough to stimulate the nostalgia of old golf fans.

Choi Gyeong-ju was the only Asian player to participate in this competition. Kyung-Joo Choi, who won 9 wins, including 8 on the PGA Tour and 1 on the Champions Tour, played a significant role as a pillar on the World Team.

It was effective to build a close friendship with Els by serving as the team leader and vice-team leader, respectively, at the Presidents Cup held in Melbourne, Australia in 2019.
