Funeral service for late national soccer team coach Park Jong-hwan

A photo of the late Jong-hwan Park, former head coach of the South Korean national soccer team, is placed at the funeral of the late Jong-hwan Park at the Jongno-gu Soccer Hall on Tuesday morning.

International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino sent a message to the Korea Football Association on Wednesday in memory of the late coach Park Jong-hwan.

"I would like to express my deepest condolences on the passing of the late coach, who contributed to the history of Korean football as an outstanding coach for many years, leading the Korean national team, the U-20 national team and K League clubs," Infantino said in the message. "On behalf of footballers around the world, I extend my sympathies to the bereaved family and all those who loved him."

"We hope that this message will bring a little peace of mind and comfort to those who are grieving," he added, "and that his legacy will be remembered by many."

Park, who passed away on July 7, led South Korea to the quarterfinals of the 1983 World U-20 Championship in Mexico and won three consecutive titles from 1993 to 1995 as coach of Seongnam Ilhwa.

The Korea Football Association will hold a minute's silence to honor the deceased before the start of South Korea's friendly match against Tunisia at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu, Seoul. 19가이드03
