Kim Se-young and Anna Lin reached the semifinals in the T-Mobile Match Play on the LPGA Tour.
At the Shadow Creek (par 72) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kim Sei-young won the quarterfinals with 6&5 (winning by six holes with five holes remaining), which was held in a match play format, and achieved a landslide victory. Annalyn also won the quarterfinals with Minami Katsu (Japan) by one hole, advancing to the semifinals. Annalyn succeeded in a 1-meter-long bogey putt at the 18th hole (par 5).
Kim will face off against Riona Maguire of Ireland in the semifinals. After winning first place in the first to third rounds of stroke play, Maguire advanced to the semifinals by beating Moraya Jutanugarn of Thailand, who reached the quarterfinals through a playoff, by 4&3 (winning by four holes with three holes remaining)
Annalin will face world No. 1 Nelly Koda of the U.S. She beat Angel Yin of the U.S. by 3&2 (winning by three holes with two holes remaining) to advance to the semifinals. This will take Anna in charge of blocking Koda from winning four consecutive tournaments.
Korean players are seeking their first LPGA Tour victory this season with Kim Se-young and Anna Lin advancing to the semifinals. Korean players, who are lagging behind on the LPGA Tour, have been winless for seven consecutive tournaments since the season began in 10 years since 2014. In 2014, Park In-bee became the first Korean to win the Manulife Financial Classic, her 14th competition.
Kim, who has 12 career wins on the tour, has the experience of winning match play. He won the Lorena Ochoa Match Play in 2017. At the time, Kim won the final by beating Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand by one hole. For Kim, who has yet to lift the trophy after winning the Pelican Championship in November 2020, this is a golden opportunity to add to her victory. Anna Lynn, who is on the LPGA Tour in 2022, is aiming for her first win since her debut.
