Defending U.S. Professional Golf (PGA) Tour champion Joo Hyung Kim posted a solid first day of competition.

The South Korean carded five birdies and two bogeys in the first round of the Shriners Hospitality Open at the par-71 TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday (July 13) to cut three strokes off his total.

Kim, who shot a 3-under 68, finished in the middle of the pack, but not all players were able to finish their first rounds due to sunset.

Leading the way is Bo Hosler (USA), who fired a 9-under-par 62.

Kim won this event last year and will be looking for his second straight victory and third career PGA Tour title.

While his drive accuracy (78.57%) wasn't too bad, as he missed the fairway only three times, he was unable to hit the greens in regulation (66.67%).

A three-putt on the fourth (par-4) and back-to-back bogeys on the fifth (par-3) after failing to get his tee shot on the green were his only setbacks.

Lexi Thompson on the PGA Tour.

Lexi Thompson (USA), a star player on the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour making her debut on the PGA Tour, had three birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey through 16 holes.

Thompson survived the day with two holes remaining in the first round and two rounds to play.

Before Thompson, six women had competed on the PGA Tour, but only Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1911-1956) made the cut.

Zaharias made the cut at the 1945 Tucson Open and Phoenix Open.

Lee Kyung-hun is in the middle of the pack with a 2-under 69, while Kim Si-woo, the team gold medalist at the Hangzhou Asian Games, shot a 1-over 72. 19가이드03
