Shohei Ohtani (LA Dodgers) reportedly entrusted the case to luxury lawyers.

The British media Daily Mail reported on the 28th (Korea Standard Time),

"Otani's famous Hollywood lawyers previously represented Prince Andrew, Leonardo DiCaprio, Julio Urias, Russell Brand and other celebrities caught up in the scandal."

"We have discovered that Shohei has been the victim of large-scale theft and will hand the matter over to authorities," Ohtani's lawyers said in a statement after Ifei Mizuhara, Ohtani's former interpreter, told ESPN that he had paid off his gambling debt. The statement reportedly came from Burke Brettler LLP, which was founded by two of the entertainment industry's most prominent lawyers.

Prince Andrew is the second son of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and was accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre, a then 17-year-old American woman, in 2001 along with U.S. billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Andrew has denied allegations of sexual assault but eventually agreed to a 2022 settlement.

They also defended Julio Urías, a former Dodgers pitcher who was placed on administrative leave after being arrested last year on domestic violence charges.

Urías avoided felony charges.

Why did Ohtani hire such an expensive lawyer who claimed it had nothing to do with Mizuhara's illegal sports gambling?

The reasons can be summarized in two ways.

First, because Mizuhara could withdraw the statement again. According to ESPN, Mizuhara withdrew the statement saying Ohtani had paid off his gambling debt, but that Ohtani knew nothing about his gambling and did not pay off his debt.

Ohtani also claimed, "I've never bet on baseball or other sports, and I've never asked anyone to do so," adding, "He (Mizuhara) took money out of my account and lied."

With all the faults attributed to him, Mizuhara may change her mind during the investigation process and reverse her previous statement. This will lead to a losing game.

Second, Ohtani claims that he never transferred $4.5 million. He claims that Mizuhara stole money from his bank account.

But the U.S. media is suspicious that they didn't know the $4.5 million figure was lost.

Mizuhara is still silent. He is interested in what will come out of his mouth.
