Russell Martin with Ryu Hyun-jin in his prime, Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame induction

Retired catcher Russell Martin has been inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Canadian media, including "TSN," reported on the 7th (Korea time) that Martin was selected as an inductee of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024.

Born in East York, Ontario, Canada, Martin began his career as a professional player by being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2002 draft.

He played in 1693 games for the Dodgers (2006-10, 19), New York Yankees (2011-12), Pittsburgh Pirates (2013-14), and Toronto Blue Jays (2015-18), batting .248, on-base percentage .349, and slugging percentage .397.

He was a four-time All-Star and won both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards in 2007.

He helped end the team's postseason drought in Pittsburgh in 2013 and Toronto in 2015.

He returned to his hometown Dodgers in 2019 and contributed to his team's district championship.

At that time, Ryu was in good harmony with Ryu. He had a 1.52 ERA in 20 games with Martin.

At the time, Ryu said, "I did that during the camp, and I think it was good as soon as I started. I got off to a good start in the first game, and I've been continuing to this day," he said about the reason why he and Martin work well together.

Martin said of Ryu, "He's the pitcher I enjoyed working with the most. He had a really good pitch. He does his own homework and knows exactly where and how to throw. He's a 'very smart' pitcher. "I really enjoyed my time with him," he recalled of his time with Ryu.

Meanwhile, this year's Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductees include Martin, left-hander Jimmy Key, who contributed to two victories by Toronto in 1987 and ranked first in ERA (2.76), former women's international player Ashley Stevenson, former Blue Jays chairman and CEO. Paul Godfrey, former Canadian national pitcher Rod Heisler, and Toronto baseball executive Howard Bunny will be inducted.
